Well thats the … Well thats the question that has been argued about for hundreds of years, what is art.
“art without meaning, is entertainment at best” is usually a good rule of thumb.
but there again, art is what a art critic thinks is art, there is no room for interpretation really in art, when creating art you must be a facist.
But if you have been to the art galleries ive been to in around 13 countries, some of which i travel to that country just for the galleries.
What video games … What video games are that moving that you really care about the characters, and are on the verge of crying, like you would with a sad film, and if you mention Metal Gear 3: Snake eater, as my friends have, its moving in the same way the last scene of Armageddon is moving.
And i understand that games are great, i bloody love em, but my point is they are not “art”, read the last sentence of the last comment.
and to some extent they are important, WW2 games i think are sometimes educational.
well, die hard 3 is … well, die hard 3 is also entertainment, that doesn’t mean that movies are not an art form, it depends on a game. Another World is a modern masterpiece for instance, and storylines of certain games move people more than any classical work of art. games are most certainly part of contemporary art relevant to our time
Im not saying it … Im not saying it doesnt take alot to make a game, from programming, to set design, and just all round creative direction they require.
But id say most defietly they probably will be considered “art” as their image improves, take MGS4, or GTA4, they look spectaculor, absoloutly incredible, from each stage of development they took years and years.
but at the end of that, what they have made is entertainment.

It takes a lot of art to make a game, and any game artist will say, that the entire game they work on, is their art. Same with programmers. Math and programs are a form of art, but not a visual one. So pretty much… an entire game is a piece of art, music, workings, and what you see…
