What do morals and ethics have to do with engineering?
Please help ! I need this for tomorrow !
I mean if you dont have a good set of moral and ethical standards you would build houses, building etc and not care about any saftey precasions
you would use the cheapest materials and not keep in mind the integretiy of the building or the people that might occupy it
this has happened before especially in developing countries
which leads to buildings crashing prematurly and for no reason, and people dying..
also an engineer of lets say a nucleur bomb, or wepons etc they need to keep in mind morals and ethics too
hope that helps

Officious Seeing Eye Byatch Says:
Any knowledge can be dangerous depending on what it’s used toward. You can have an engineer design a safer car OR one design terrorist weapons.

- Engineers have the ability to implement dangerous and hazardous materials in their creations. They might use lead because it is easy to shape and cheap. However, should a child’s toy be made of lead? No. And, an engineer or designer should behave ethically and morally to keep products’ users safe.

LizzyC Says:
Anyone can act immoral or unethical in any career, but in engineering it’s about building and designing safe and ethical things.
Unethical practices may be anything from signing and stamping a design as "safe" without even reviewing it, to cutting corners to save money and causing something to be unsafe.

Ecko Says:
Engineering ethics codes are attempts to work within moral standards, a form of applied ethics. The link below on engineering ethics explains in detail how this applies to engineering, but the American Society of Civil Engineers code mentioned looks like a good representation – briefly (in my words), and referring to the practice of their profession:
Health safety and welfare of the public comes first, and that includes striving towards sustainable development.
Only provide services in the areas of their competence. To me, if you were a bridge builder that may mean not airports, though both are civil. A thin line, that depends on experience.
Only objective and truthful public statements.
Act faithfully for each client or employer, avoiding conflicts of interest.
Build their profession on merit of their services, and not compete unfairly.
Act to uphold the honour, integrity and dignity of their profession, with zero tolerance for bribery, fraud and corruption.
Continued professional development throughout their career, and provide opportunities for those supervised.
The safety aspect is at the top as engineers represent the part of the community that has the best of our knowledge towards the understanding of hazards and how to minimize them. This is usually re-enforced by regulations, which of course engineers also need to understand..
