Why is all the cool stuff sold overseas first?

I was looking online for a new cell phone to buy because I can get an upgrade in November. But all the cool cell phones are being sold in Europe, Asia, and South America. I use Verizon Wireless and at their international site they have the coolest cell phones for everyone else BUT Americans. And when we do get the cool stuff we get it like 3 – 6 months later. Why?
The reason most likely is because the things are made overseas, therefore we don’t get them for months because they are tested there also.
